A spring-loaded tamper that gives at a set point. You press until it clicks and the press stops there — the same motion every time. It takes tamping off the list of things you're adjusting while you dial a shot in.
- Calibrated spring — repeatable, predictable feel from shot to shot
- Helps you seat the puck level without leaning on one side
- Flat polished stainless steel base, aluminium handle — no wood
- Three sizes: 51 mm, 53 mm and 58 mm
Sizing — please read before ordering
Wrong sizing is the most common mistake in this category, and all sales are final. Measure the inside diameter of your portafilter basket before you order. The number printed on a machine or a portafilter is often the portafilter's outside diameter, not the basket's inside — the two are not the same.
Breville and Sage machines do not all use the same size. Some models take the smaller 54 mm portafilter family; others — including the Dual Boiler, Oracle, Oracle Touch and Barista Max — are 58 mm systems. Check your specific model rather than assuming.
Gaggia Classic and Classic Pro are 58 mm systems.
We make this tamper in 51 mm, 53 mm and 58 mm — the round sizes. Fractional sizes such as 53.3 mm and 58.5 mm exist from other makers and sit closer to the basket wall on some machines. We don't offer those, and we'd rather say so than imply ours is a precision fit. If you're unsure which size your machine takes, check its documentation or ask the manufacturer before ordering.

Questions
Which size fits my machine?
Measure the inside diameter of your portafilter basket and match it — see Sizing above. We don't list fit for machines we haven't verified, so if you're unsure, check your machine's documentation or ask its manufacturer first.
58 mm vs 58.5 mm — does it matter?
It can. Basket internal diameters vary between machines and between basket brands, and some run a little wider than 58 mm, which can leave a thin untamped ring at the edge. Buyers who want the closest possible fit to the basket wall often prefer a fractional-millimetre tamper. Ours is 58 mm.
Is a calibrated tamper better than a regular one?
It's different rather than better. A spring tamper gives you a repeatable feel and makes it easier to seat the puck level without pressing harder on one side. What it doesn't do is change your shot through pressure alone — controlled testing has found that tamping force, within the range people actually apply, makes little measurable difference to extraction. Buy one to remove a variable and keep the motion consistent, not to change what's in the cup.
Why a flat base?
A flat face sits evenly on the bed and is the easiest to keep clean.
Does it have a wooden handle?
No — it's all metal. We'd rather say so than let a photo imply otherwise.
